A Memo from Linda Givens, Executive Director

Posted on April 29, 2020

I hope that this memo finds you well.

First, let me thank our independent living residents, who continue to remain in their apartments. It is crucial that you continue to limit your time outside your apartments only to those occasions that are absolutely necessary. I know that it has been lovely weather, and if you wish to take a walk outdoors, please wear your mask within the community and while on the LVL grounds. Staying home, wearing your mask when outside your apartment, and washing your hands regularly are the best methods to stay safe and well.

Our staff continue to work diligently for the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of our residents. Thank you! As you know, we have some staff members who are at home, having tested positive for COVID-19. We pray for these individuals, who must wait at home until they are released by DOH to return to work. You will understand that we cannot release names of staff members who have been affected, as that is not legally allowed. Also, we have had some staff members who have chosen no longer to be employed at LVL. I wish they had not made that decision, but I understand that they make the choice that seems best to them and their family. Meanwhile, I’m working diligently to make sure that we find staff who can maintain all the operations that LVL staff and residents rely on. It’s a challenge, but we’re getting there.

As you know, I have been in conversation with the New Mexico National Guard to provide personnel who can assist our environmental services department. They have not given me a precise date and time for their work here. As soon as I have details, I’ll communicate those to you. Likewise, we’re in conversation with companies who are able to engage in regular disinfection of our community, and I’ll let you know those details soon, just as soon as I can work them out with providers.

Also as you know, the NM Department of Health has confirmed that they will be sending a team to complete the testing at Alta Vista, the Casitas, and Nueva Vista. I have not heard back from them as to when this will be scheduled. In addition, I’m working the DOH to have a regular cycle of testing, both for those who have tested positive and for the community as a whole. I’m so grateful to the DOH for their assistance in setting up this process.
